Swedish for Healthcare Professionals

Which level of Swedish do you need to reach in order to get a license from Socialstyrelsen?

In order to get a license from Socialstyrelsen, you need to reach C1 level of Swedish.  If you take courses with us, ONLINE SWEDISH, and want to get our certificate, which Socialstyrelsen approves, then you need to take the following courses, described in the picture, and below. SFM course (Swedish for Medical Staff) is compulsory in our curriculum for healthcare professionals. If you have studied Swedish elsewhere and have a documented certificate, then you can join from your current level.

Medical Professional who is about to start learning Swedish

If you are a healthcare professional planning to move to Sweden and need to learn Swedish, we offer flexible online courses that you can take from anywhere. Our courses cater to all levels, from beginner to advanced.

To obtain your medical license from Socialstyrelsen→ in Sweden, you must reach a C1 level (CEFR) in Swedish.

  • If you are a beginner, you will start with the Swedish A1 course.
  • If you are already in Sweden and attending SFI, you can check your SFI level and see what it corresponds to in the CEFR framework. CEFR and SFI levels→
  • If you are not living in Sweden or not attending SFI, you can start with our Swedish A1 course.

For healthcare professionals, we offer 8 courses. Seven of these are regular Swedish courses →, and one is specifically for healthcare professionals—Swedish for Medical Staff→ (SFM). The SFM course is compulsory in our healthcare professionals’ curriculum. You can purchase the courses individually or in different course packages, prices and discounts→. We also offer a Swedish for Healthcare Professionals package, which includes all 8 courses for €1699.

Our program takes approximately 11-12 months to complete. You will attend regular Swedish lessons from Monday to Thursday, the Swedish for Healthcare Professionals (SFM) course on Fridays, and Swedish Conversation sessions on Saturdays. Upon completion, you will be confident in your Swedish skills and fully prepared to work as a healthcare professional in Sweden.

Candidates may enroll in the Swedish for Healthcare Professionals (SFM) course upon completing the A2 level.

  • First 10 sessions: Passive participation, focusing on listening and following the lessons.
  • Next 10 sessions: Active engagement, involving reading and translating medical texts.
