To apply for Med3Comp in Sweden, you must fit a narrow recruitment profile rather than simply be a foreign-trained doctor. The current Region Dalarna vacancy requires you to be a specialist physician educated outside the EU/EEA, hold Socialstyrelsen’s decision that you must complete praktisk tjänstgöring (clinical training), and have Swedish at B2 level or higher that the employer considers sufficient for the placement.
Selection is competitive and tied to Region Dalarna’s current need for particular specialists. Med3Comp can provide six months of salaried, supervised clinical service plus language, integration, relocation and family support, but it does not guarantee selection, a work permit, housing, a Swedish medical licence or continued employment. For the project’s overall purpose and structure, first read our complete Med3Comp programme guide.
Med3Comp eligibility at a glance
| Eligibility point | What the current recruitment information requires |
|---|---|
| Medical background | A specialist physician educated outside the EU/EEA. |
| Licensing stage | A Socialstyrelsen decision stating that you must undergo clinical training. The decision must be attached. |
| Proficiency test | The clinical-training stage can begin only after the entire kunskapsprovet, both theoretical and practical parts, has been passed. |
| Swedish | At least B2, plus Region Dalarna’s assessment that your Swedish is sufficient for supervised clinical work. |
| Professional fit | Collaborative working, responsiveness, good patient and colleague interaction, and the ability to organise and prioritise safely. |
| Regional fit | Your specialty must match a current Region Dalarna staffing need; meeting minimum criteria does not create a right to a place. |
Med3Comp sits inside Socialstyrelsen’s non-EU/EEA authority route. It is not a university admission route and does not replace the proficiency test. It addresses the stage at which a qualifying doctor needs a suitable six-month workplace, supervision and assessment. If you are comparing ordinary placement searches, use our planned guide to finding a six-month clinical training placement.
Who can apply for Med3Comp in Sweden?
Your licensing stage matters
The decisive document is not merely an education-assessment decision. Region Dalarna requires the later Socialstyrelsen decision confirming that praktisk tjänstgöring is your next step. Socialstyrelsen states that clinical training begins only after both parts of the proficiency test have been passed. An applicant who is still waiting for education assessment, preparing for the theory test or waiting to take the practical test is therefore too early for the current placement.
Specialist status and country of education
The live advert requires specialist status and is aimed at physicians educated outside the EU/EEA. It does not say that any medical graduate may apply. Your foreign specialist certificate does not, by itself, make you a Swedish-recognised specialist: the placement belongs to the route toward a general Swedish medical licence.
| Applicant situation | Likely fit | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Non-EU/EEA specialist at the clinical-training stage | Core target group. | Decision, Swedish level and current specialty demand. |
| EU/EEA medical qualification | Normally follows the EU/EEA recognition route, not Med3Comp. | Your individual Socialstyrelsen route. |
| EU citizen with a non-EU/EEA qualification | Potentially within the outside-EU education route, but project funding criteria may be narrower. | Ask the Med3Comp team to confirm eligibility before applying. |
| UK-trained specialist | Depends on diploma date, recognition history and the Socialstyrelsen decision. | Confirm both the licensing route and the project’s current target-group rule. |
| Already holds Swedish medical licence | Usually not a fit because the required clinical-training stage has already been completed. | Look for an ordinary licensed post or the applicable specialist pathway. |
The official project register describes a target of third-country nationals with medical competence and their families, while the vacancy emphasises specialist physicians educated outside the EU/EEA. Citizenship, country of education and immigration status are different facts. Borderline cases should be confirmed directly with Region Dalarna rather than inferred from one label.
Current Med3Comp vacancy and selection priorities
| Current vacancy field | Published information |
|---|---|
| Role | Practical service for specialist physicians within Med3Comp. |
| Location | Falun. |
| Employment | Fixed-term position (vikariat), 100% full time. |
| Number of posts | Two. |
| Start | By agreement. |
| Deadline | 30 August 2026, with rolling selection and interviews. |
Region Dalarna says that selection follows its current need for specialists. A vacancy at a primary-care centre seeking an allmänmedicin specialist may therefore cause that specialty to be prioritised. This is workforce matching, not a simple first-qualified, first-admitted queue. Applicants should show both formal eligibility and how their clinical experience addresses the receiving service’s needs.
How to apply for Med3Comp step by step
- Confirm that you hold the correct Socialstyrelsen decision. Read the decision itself and verify that clinical training is the next required stage. Do not submit only an earlier education-assessment letter.
- Open Region Dalarna’s Med3Comp page and live vacancy. Check location, deadline, reference number, number of posts and any specialty priority. Old adverts and webinar descriptions are not substitutes for the current notice.
- Match every published requirement to evidence. Prepare the required decision, a clear account of foreign specialist status and a truthful description of Swedish proficiency. Make sure names, dates and licensing status agree across documents.
- Adapt the application to Region Dalarna’s need. Your CV and application text should connect specialist experience to the advertised service while explaining your current Swedish authorisation stage precisely. Do not present yourself as a Swedish-licensed specialist.
- Submit through the linked recruitment system. Region Dalarna’s general process says candidates normally apply through its recruitment system and receive an automatic confirmation. The current Med3Comp notice adds a specific exception: if the form does not work, application documents may be sent to info.med3comp@regiondalarna.se. Applicants with protected personal data should follow the vacancy’s special contact instruction rather than the normal system.
- Prepare for interview, references and practical planning. Be ready to discuss teamwork, patient communication, prioritisation, feedback, relocation, start date and the clinical limits that apply before full Swedish licensure.
Save the submission confirmation and an exact copy of everything sent. If the vacancy closes or the link changes, use Region Dalarna’s main Med3Comp page and published project contact rather than an unofficial repost.
Med3Comp application document checklist
| Document or evidence | Published status | Preparation note |
|---|---|---|
| Socialstyrelsen clinical-training decision | Explicitly mandatory attachment. | Applications without it cannot be processed under the current notice. |
| Specialist qualification | Specialist status is an explicit requirement. | Prepare the certificate and a clear, accurate Swedish or English explanation; confirm the portal’s requested format. |
| Swedish evidence | B2 or higher is required, with employer assessment of adequacy. | Prepare available certificates and be ready to demonstrate spoken clinical Swedish. |
| CV and application text | Use the fields and attachments requested by the live recruitment system. | Show specialty scope, recent practice, licensing stage, Swedish level and relocation availability. |
| References | Region Dalarna may take references for candidates who progress. | Choose referees who can verify clinical work, teamwork, professionalism and dates. |
| Identity, permit and family documents | Not listed as the initial mandatory Med3Comp attachment. | Prepare them for later employment, immigration and relocation steps if selected. |
Do not label a prudent preparation item as a formally required attachment unless the live portal asks for it. The one attachment the vacancy expressly identifies as indispensable is the Socialstyrelsen decision. If the portal requests additional items, its current fields control the submission.
How Med3Comp applications are assessed
Assessment has at least three layers. First comes formal eligibility: specialist status, the correct decision and Swedish at B2 or higher. Second comes clinical and interpersonal suitability: the vacancy highlights collaboration, responsiveness, good conduct toward patients and colleagues, and effective organisation and prioritisation. Third comes workforce fit: the region must have a suitable workplace and a need for the applicant’s specialty.
Region Dalarna describes a competency-based recruitment approach in which the published requirements profile guides the process. Shortlisted candidates may undergo reference checks, and the employer’s general recruitment information describes pre-employment checks that can include drug testing and workplace-specific controls. The precise checks for a Med3Comp placement should be confirmed during recruitment.
An interview should therefore demonstrate more than medical seniority. Explain how you ask for help in an unfamiliar system, respond to feedback, communicate uncertainty, prioritise patient safety and adapt specialist knowledge to a supervised general-licensing placement.
Funding, salary and employment terms
Med3Comp is financed through the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. The official project register lists a project period from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027 and approved support of SEK 11,995,375 to Region Dalarna. That is project funding to the region, not a personal grant that an applicant receives.
Region Dalarna states that participants complete six months of supervised clinical service with salary. The region pays the doctor’s salary and most supervision costs, while Med3Comp adds project-funded support for supervision. This is important because Socialstyrelsen itself does not provide financial aid for the ordinary clinical-training period.
The public pages do not publish one universal participant salary or promise that every cost is reimbursed. Before accepting, confirm the actual gross salary, contract dates, workplace, collective-agreement coverage, insurance, working hours, leave, supervision plan, moving costs and any temporary accommodation assistance in writing. Funding through 2027 does not mean places are continuously available, and a six-month placement does not guarantee permanent employment afterwards.
Practical support for participants and families
Region Dalarna lists a broader support package than the clinical placement alone:
- language support for participating physicians, provided when needed;
- basic language courses for accompanying partners;
- civic, practical and cultural orientation to help participants understand daily life and Swedish society;
- professional guidance intended to support movement toward work in Swedish healthcare;
- assistance with work permits, housing and schools for the participant and accompanying family; and
- community and social activities connected to integration in Dalarna.
These are forms of assistance, not guaranteed outcomes. The project can help someone search for housing or a preschool place without guaranteeing a particular home, municipality, school or start date. It can guide a permit process without replacing Migrationsverket’s decision. Ask what support begins before arrival, what requires a signed contract, who the contact person is and which expenses remain the family’s responsibility.
Immigration and relocation boundaries
If a work permit is required, the employer normally begins the application after an employment agreement exists, and the applicant completes their part. Current work-permit rules include contract, salary, insurance and passport requirements. Do not travel or make irreversible housing commitments on the assumption that project assistance equals an approved permit.
For the wider sequence of identity numbers, permits, housing and registration, follow our planned relocation checklist for international doctors.
Applicants relocating with a partner or children should also plan passports, relationship evidence, custody or consent documents where applicable, housing capacity, childcare and school timing. The complete family process belongs in our planned guide to moving to Sweden with family as a doctor.
Swedish preparation for Med3Comp
B2 is the current recruitment threshold, not a universal final licensing certificate. Region Dalarna also assesses whether the applicant’s Swedish is sufficient for the clinical service. Socialstyrelsen separately requires accepted language evidence by the final licence application; CEFR C1 Swedish is one accepted option, alongside other listed evidence and an eligible healthcare-provider assessment.
Review the planned guide to accepted Swedish C1 evidence for medical licensing for the full distinction between recruitment level, practical workplace ability and final proof.

Common Med3Comp application mistakes
- Attaching the wrong Socialstyrelsen letter. The vacancy requires the decision to undergo clinical training, not only proof that education was assessed.
- Applying before passing both test parts. Clinical training starts after the complete proficiency test.
- Assuming B2 guarantees acceptance. The employer also evaluates practical adequacy and specialty need.
- Calling yourself a Swedish specialist. Foreign specialist status supports eligibility, but Swedish specialist recognition is a separate later issue.
- Using an old vacancy summary. Deadlines, locations, posts and priorities change.
- Treating support as a guarantee. Permit, housing, school, licence and continued-employment decisions remain separate.
- Sending generic application text. Show why your experience fits the region’s current clinical need and how you will work safely under supervision.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply before finishing the kunskapsprovet?
Not for the current clinical-service vacancy. You must attach Socialstyrelsen’s decision requiring clinical training, and Socialstyrelsen says that this training can begin only after both the theoretical and practical test parts have been passed.
Is B2 Swedish enough for Med3Comp?
B2 or higher is the published minimum, but Region Dalarna must also judge your Swedish sufficient for practical service. Final licence evidence is a separate Socialstyrelsen requirement, and clinical safety may demand stronger speaking, listening and documentation skills than a level label alone shows.
Is Med3Comp clinical service paid?
Yes. Region Dalarna describes six months of supervised clinical service with salary and says it pays the doctor’s salary and most supervision costs. The exact amount and employment conditions must be confirmed in the individual offer and contract.
Does Med3Comp pay for housing and moving costs?
The public information promises assistance with practical matters such as housing, permits and schools, but it does not publish a universal promise to pay rent, deposits, travel or all moving costs. Ask for a written explanation of what is arranged, advised, reimbursed or paid personally.
Can my family move with me?
The project includes support relating to accompanying partners and children, including basic language courses for partners and help with schools. Whether family members can move, and which documents and maintenance conditions apply, depends on citizenship and the relevant Migrationsverket decision.
Does Med3Comp guarantee a job after the six months?
No. Region Dalarna hopes the project will support long-term recruitment, but continued work depends on licensing, performance, a suitable vacancy, immigration status and a separate employment decision.
Your next Med3Comp application step
Start with the decision in your own Socialstyrelsen file. If it explicitly places you at clinical training, compare your specialist background and Swedish ability with the live Region Dalarna vacancy, prepare the mandatory decision and role-specific application, and submit before the current deadline. If any target-group detail is unclear, contact the Med3Comp team before making relocation commitments. A careful application shows not only that you qualify, but that you understand the supervised purpose of the placement and can meet a real regional need.
