A1–C1 Study Pathway with Medical Swedish
Build the Swedish you need for everyday life and professional communication in healthcare. ONLINE SWEDISH offers a structured online pathway for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals: general Swedish from beginner to advanced level, Writing & Speaking, and the specialist Swedish for Medical Staff course.

1. Choose your starting point
Complete beginner? Start with Swedish A1. You do not need previous knowledge of Swedish.
Already studied Swedish? Send us information about your previous courses and any valid language certificates. We will review your starting point with you and help you identify the courses you still need for your study and certificate goals.
The full pathway from beginner level typically takes 11–12 months. Your actual plan depends on your starting level, available course dates, progress and completion of the required live sessions and assessments. Check the timetable before planning your finish date.
2. Follow the eight-course pathway
The programme combines seven general Swedish courses with Swedish for Medical Staff (SFM). General Swedish develops the language foundation; SFM adds specialist vocabulary and practice with medical texts.

You can begin SFM after completing A2. You can therefore develop your medical vocabulary while continuing through the general Swedish pathway.

3. Choose live classes or video study with mentorship

| Medical Professional video pathway | Study recorded general Swedish lessons at times that suit you, with weekly live support opportunities. Each purchased video course provides 90 days of access. |
| Required live courses | Writing & Speaking and SFM must be attended in real time in our healthcare programme, including when you choose video study for the other courses. |
If you need our healthcare certificate arrangements, choose Medical Professional Mode when purchasing video courses. This mode has the relevant examination and certificate arrangements for healthcare students.

4. Plan your weekly timetable
All times below are Swedish local time.

Different courses occupy the two general-course tracks during the year. Check the dates and track for your chosen level; availability in both time slots is not automatic. If you live outside Sweden, check your local time throughout the course, including clock changes.

What happens during SFM?
SFM requires a minimum of 20 sessions. During the first ten, you focus on listening and following the lessons. During the next ten, you participate actively by reading and translating medical texts. The course is approximately 60 hours; session length can vary with the group’s preparation and progress.
Topics include medical terminology, the human body and organ systems, symptoms and diseases, medication, microbiology and emergency care. SFM is a language course using medical subject matter.

6. Complete the speaking practice and certificate requirements
Our free Swedish Conversation Club provides additional speaking practice with other learners. Register once to receive session invitations. It follows its own timetable alongside your course studies.
Plan for ten conversation sessions per general Swedish course when working towards a certificate. Complete the required coursework, live participation and assessments for your chosen certificate. SFM participation is a separate part of our healthcare pathway.
Once you have completed the required courses, conversation practice and assessments, you can request your certificate. Your documentation can include your completed courses, study hours and examination results. In our healthcare pathway, W&S and SFM are attended live, giving you opportunities to practise and develop your written, spoken and medical Swedish.

7. Register for your healthcare study pathway
Tell us your profession, current Swedish level, previous language study and preferred study format. Include when you would like to start and which live-session times you can attend. We can help you choose a starting course and check your W&S and SFM plan.
- Discuss your level with an instructor or arrange a free trial lesson before booking live study.
- Choose your course or package and check the relevant dates.
- Use the invoice-request instructions on the live course booking page or the video course booking page. For video study, specify Medical Professional Mode; mention SFM separately if you are booking the full pathway.
